Catfish Creator Talks Manti Teo and Kekua

The story of Notre Dame All-American linebacker Manti Te'o, and the hoax he reportedly perpetuated, has captivated both sports-lovers and novices alike. In short, Te'o had started an online relationship with a woman who used the phony name Lennay Kekua, and fooled the athlete into believing she died of leukemia in September. Te'o was vocal about Kekua's battle, further endearing him to the Football nation.

But on Wednesday, Te'o's story was exposed as a lie in the press, 10 days after he reportedly learned of the hoax himself. The rub is that, despite learning that Kekua was a fraud on December 6, he continued to talk about her battle with leukemia in interviews on December 8 and again in a newspaper interview published Dec. 10, according to The Huffington Post.

Putting aside Te'o's potential perpetuation of this hoax for personal gain (some have posited he did so to further endear himself to Heisman Trophy judges), this phenomenon is not only becoming increasingly more commonplace, but it's a full-fledged TV phenomenon thanks to MTV's Catfish, based on the 2010 documentary.

RELATED - ETonline's Interview with Catfish Creators

Nev Schulman, the original "Catfish," Tweeted on January 16, "I am working on finding out more about this @MTeo_5 #Catfish story. I have been in contact with the woman involved and will get the truth." He later Tweeted at Manti, saying, "I know how you feel. It happened 2 me. I want 2 help tell ur story & prevent this from happening to others in the future. Lets talk."

Nev's brother, and Catfish co-producer, Ariel Schulman appeared on Good Morning America minutes ago and revealed that while Manti hasn't returned their interview requests, they have learned quite a bit about what happened behind the scenes.

"[Nev and Catfish co-host Max Joseph have] uncovered a few people who were duped by the fake Kekua character," Ariel told George Stephanopoulos. "It's bigger than Manti, there were other people she was corresponding with."

When asked why Te'o would carry on a relationship with someone he'd never met, Schulman explained, "I think when you want something bad enough, in his case, a connection, you'll ignore the red flags. My gut is that there's a lonely person behind it all who didn't expect it to go this far. My guess is there was no malicious intent and it was just two people looking for love."

SAG Awards Flashback: Javier Bardem 2008

Javier Bardem made an immediate impact on the film world when he began undertaking roles in wide-release American films; however, he didn't experience the reward of his American film success until undertaking ruthless hit-man "Anton Chigurh" in No Country for Old Men.

The Spanish actor had received plenty of accolades in his native country but had yet to receive any tangible reward for his American films until 2008. He had been nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe for his first American film, Before Night Falls, but still had nothing to solidify his touted performances.

"It's a great honor of course, and I guess what I did is to take it and say, 'O.K., thank you for that; it's a great honor," he says to ET's former co-host Mary Hart at the 2008 SAG Awards of his many nominations for No Country. "There's not much you can do other than really thank the people that thought that you could be included in [the nominees category]."

Bardem would have plenty more thanking to do that night, as he won not only the Best Supporting Actor Award but also received the Best Cast Award for No Country. A few weeks later, he completed his sweep of the awards circuit with an Oscar for the role.

"I'm so happy!" Bardem offers in Spanish when prompted by Mrs. Hart to celebrate as he would in his native tongue.

While Bardem won't have the opportunity to make an awards sweep as he did in 2008, the 43-year-old actor has been given another SAG nomination to be thankful this year, this time for his supporting role in Skyfall.

'Cougar Town' Cast on Switching to TBS for Season 4

After premiering on ABC, Cougar Town has moved to TBS after three seasons, making the switch from network television to cable. With the show now in its fourth season, the cast revealed what they think of the channel switch.

"'Those are some smart people!'" star Courtney Cox emulated her response to TBS picking up the show. "I was just like, 'Great. It's someone who'll promote the show and it'll be something they're proud of.' It just felt great."

The cast echoed Cox's feelings on the move to TBS, citing their new network's heavy promotion of its shows as a big perk. Busy Phillips summed up the cast's perception of the move as a confidence boost to the show.

VIDEO: 'Cougar Town' Cast on the Prowl in Vegas

"Anytime you're given a second chance as a television show, it's awesome," she said. "With TBS, it's been such an awesome opportunity 'cause here's a network that...has this great brand that they're promoting...Of course it's been great to move from a place where we didn't feel like we were getting a lot of attention or promotion or network love to a network that's very enthusiastic."

Phillips, who plays Courtney Cox's character's assistant, "Laurie Keller," maintains that not only does the new network give Cougar Town a new platform but also gives it an opportunity to properly establish its identity.

"People will get a chance to see that it's not a show about...Courtney Cox sleeping with young guys. It's not about cougars; it has nothing to do with cougars," she said. "It's about this amazing, weird, funny group of friends and family that drink a lot of wine and have a lot of silly games that they like to play."

With the switch from network to cable comes more leeway with censorship, which presents the already racy show with an opportunity to become even racier. Cox, who is also a co-executive producer on the show, said she can already feel the difference.

"I think already our show is the same, yet I feel like it's a little racier," she said. "It's a little more out-and-out funny."

SAG Awards Flashback: Daniel Day-Lewis 2003

Movie and TV stars have thousands of fans around the globe who would love to meet them, shake their hand, or even just be in the same building as them. Sometimes we forget that those very stars themselves worship other stars. As we found out at the 2003 SAG Awards, Matthew Perry has a steady admiration for Daniel-Day Lewis.

At that year's SAG Awards, Day-Lewis was nominated for his first SAG Award for Best Actor following his vivid performance in Gangs of New York. As he is being questioned by ET's former correspondent Jann Carl about fame and fandom, he is interrupted by a celebrity fan: Matthew Perry.

VIDEO: First ET Interview: Daniel Day-Lewis

The Friends actor, who is being interviewed on the other end of ET's platform, approaches Day-Lewis and shakes his hand, wishing him luck on his nomination. Perry may have been in attendance that night for his own nomination for Friends for Best Ensemble in a Comedy Series but wasn't too proud to express his adoration for a fellow actor.

"I don't know if anyone really gets used to it 'cause obviously it's not something...you...do...every day," Day-Lewis responds to the fandom question after meeting Perry. "Plus, I live it a very remote place as well. Even just going to the city for the day is shocking."

While the English actor reveals that he hasn't prepared an acceptance speech for the nomination, he would eventually have to improvise one at the podium, as he was granted his first SAG Award that night.

VIDEO: Oscars Flashback '90: Day-Lewis's Right Foot

ET catches up with Day-Lewis backstage right after he wins the award. Although his acceptance speech went well without preparation, he confesses that his heart is racing. With the Oscars following a month later, Ms. Carl informs Day-Lewis of a promising trend for him that suggests that he will also win the Best Actor Award at the Oscars.

"Is that true? Don't put a curse on it. Let's wait and see," he says. "...Quite honestly, to be amongst this group of people, if any one of them won anything we'd just stand up and applaud because it's fine, fine work."

Curse or no curse, Day-Lewis didn't receive the Best Actor award a month later at the Academy Awards. However, he did receive the Oscar five years later for There Will Be Blood, for which he had also received a SAG Award.

Five years after his last SAG-Oscar winning pair, Day-Lewis has another chance to repeat his awards season success with nominations for Lincoln for both the SAG Awards and the Oscars after recently winning a Golden Globe.

WB InStyle Golden Globes Party: Stars React to Jodie Foster's Speech

Awards acceptance speeches provide actors with not only a medium to thank those who helped them receive the award but also a platform to make their voice heard, which Jodie Foster did at Sunday night's Golden Globes. Stars reacted to Foster's acceptance speech at the WB/ InStyle party after the show.

While accepting a lifetime achievement award at the Globes, Foster digressed into her personal life, emotionally delving into her love life and sexuality. The speech captured the room and found many in the audience in tears.

"Jodie Foster's speech made me cry. It was so beautiful," said Nashville star Connie Britton. "...She's just such an example for all of us. She's done such amazing work as a woman in film and I admire her on every level."

Also touched by the heartfelt speech were Spring Breakers actresses Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez, who marveled at her courage in delivering the speech. Gomez labeled it as one of her favorite awards speeches of all-time.

"It was absolutely incredible. I think it was probably one of my favorite speeches and I've watched [the Golden Globes] since I was ten years old with my mom," the 20-year-old actress and signer said. "I think it was beautiful [and] well-said."

While most had an emotional response to the speech, Modern Family actress Sofia Vergara had a different response to the speech. As she maintains, the awards season is all about celebration, not emotion.

"I didn't cry. For me, these awards [are] not about crying," she said. "For me, it's about how amazing [everything is] and celebrating. I mean, it's not like we're working on a mine in Peru. It's just fun and beautiful things."

'2 Broke Girls': Kat Dennings, Beth Behrs Remember Their Broke Days

Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs of 2 Broke Girls may both be successful actresses on a primetime network television show but they were once financially strapped and remember the days when they were struggling like their TV characters.

"I was broke after college trying to make it out here and be an actor," said Behrs, who plays "Caroline" on the sitcom. "You work all sorts of odd jobs, jobs where you're working most hours of the day and then to prepare [for] an audition, your brain's like 'Ah!' so I can relate to that."

Behrs' other half on the show Dennings had a different experience in the acting industry, as she has been acting professionally since she was 14 years old. While she may not be exactly like her character "Max," who came from a poor family, she had to work her way up within her own realm.

VIDEO: '2 Broke Girls' Reveal Embarrassing Encounters

"I've just been an actress this whole time, which is pretty weird," said Dennings, who was then reminded by Behrs of some of her early acting jobs. "I can't even tell you what I have done for money--within the acting sphere, though, nothing outside [of] it."

As the U.S. economy and economies around the globe continue to recover from stagnant economic growth and high unemployment, Dennings agrees that the show's relatable basic theme based on current world events may be a facilitator of its success. However, she maintains that the show's premise is universal.

"I think universally everyone has struggled with money," the 26-year-old actress said. "...Everyone struggles, so it's a universal struggle, but then with television, the whole fun of a sitcom and of TV is elevating your reality to something fun and lighthearted."

VIDEO: How Kat Dennings Got 'Broke'

A similar universal struggle seen in the upcoming episode of the show, which is in the middle of its second season, concerns the tribulations of relationships, which Behrs' character experiences with her boyfriend "Andy" in addition to her financial struggles.

"Andy and Caroline have had a great relationship so far. They haven't really had that many problems, but Andy's always so supportive and he's there for her," she said. "This is the first time that Caroline's whole work thing kind of starts to overtake their relationship and Andy feels a little bit left out from that and that he should be more of a priority. So, there's a little bit of an issue this episode."

People's Choice Awards: Chuck Lorre Confirms Angus T. Jones to Stay on 'Two and a Half Men'

Angus T. Jones has grown up on Two and a Half Men, beginning the show at age 10 over nine years ago. However, a recent outburst against the show had many wondering if he would continue on with the show for the remainder for current season. Nevertheless, creator Chuck Lorre assures that Jones is still on the show.

At Wednesday night's People's Choice awards, ET's Rocsi caught with Lorre on the red carpet before the show and discovered the good news for Two and a Half Men fans.

"[Angus] is coming back Monday," Lorre revealed, then elaborating on the show's next shoot. "We're shooting the next episode. He's back [with a] wonderful story with his new girlfriend, an older woman played by Jaime Pressly."

Lorre said that although he was slightly taken aback by Jones' comments, he nevertheless wanted to keep Jones and his character on the show. The writer, director, and producer who also created Mike & Molly and The Big Bang Theory said he understood Jones' basic feelings.

"He's part of the show. He's part of our family; we love him," he said. "[I] can't really disagree with him--the show's kind of filthy. What he said wasn't wrong. It might have been indiscrete but we aspire to [create] funny filth, so what are you going to do?"

Cyndi Lauper Explains Her Infamous KY Derby Flub

Last May, Cyndi Lauper performed at her first Kentucky Derby parade, which would have been a pleasant experience for her had she not unknowingly cursed on live television. As she sat down with ET to talk about her new reality show, she explained the infamous moment.

Although she knew she would have a microphone on her that day, Lauper claims that there was a miscommunication between her and the show's producers as to when her performance was airing.

RELATED: Cyndi Lauper Loses Uncle in Superstorm Sandy

"The guy told me earlier, 'It's going to be a live mic to air,' so I thought, 'I'm going to get on stage and I start singing [and] it's a live mic to air,' not 'It's going to be a live mic while you hold the mic,'" she recounted. "I tapped the mic and I said, 'Oh, great, f***ing idiot, it's not on!' and then of course, it was everywhere."

The flub was unbeknownst to Lauper at the time, as she then cheerfully greeted a group of young dancers after the incident. She was eventually tracked down by her manager, who revealed the news to her and urged her to apologize on TV, which she did.

While it's uncertain how much, if any, her cameras caught of the incident, Lauper was filming her new reality show Cyndi Lauper: Still So Unusual at the time. After debating launching her own reality series for a while, the singer revealed what pushed her to go through with it.

VIDEO: Cyndi Lauper on Lindsay Lohan: 'Everybody Falls'

"I had a lot of stuff happening this year; I love TV. I also wanted to bring attention to a lot of things that were going on," she said of the decision to film the series. "I have a full life; I do a lot of different jobs, and I sing--I still gig...and I have a family too and I try to bring my family along with me when I can. Not that I plan for mayhem to happen, but it kind of happens sometimes because that's the way it is."

Although a reality show can reveal personal aspects of her life that she may want to keep concealed or capture some unflattering moments like her Kentucky Derby flub, the "Time After Time" singer admits to having no regrets early on.

"No, no regrets yet," she said. "I think it's fine. For me, I don't care. What do I care? I've had rocks thrown at me for how I dressed and then the following couple years the same kind of people that threw the rocks at me were wearing the clothes I was wearing. So, I don't care what anybody thinks about me. I guess it was good training."

Regardless of what others' opinions of her may be, Lauper has a book out (Cyndi Lauper: A Memoir) that made the New York Times' Best Sellers List and a new reality show that will premiere this Friday (Jan. 12) at 9 p.m. on We TV.

Golden Globes Flashback: Woody Harrelson 1997

Woody Harrelson has never been considered a style icon, but when he had his tuxedo for the 1997 Golden Globes manufactured out of hemp by Armani, he was something of a fashion pioneer.

After years on Cheers, Harrelson established himself as a film actor with White Men Can't Jump in 1992. Four years later, he received his first Golden Globe nomination for The People vs. Larry Flynt, for which he also received an Oscar nomination.

Harrelson makes a stamp on his first Globes red carpet by showing up in all-white tuxedo made entirely from hemp, which he speculates may be the first of that variety. With his collar lifted and a scarf around his neck in lieu of a tie, he is complimented by ET's former correspondent Lisa Canning for his unique look.

VIDEO: Globes Flashback '08: 'Mad Men' Wins Together

"I've never been accused of being fashionable before, so this is a big night for me," the then-35-year-old actor says.

Draped in his all-hemp attire, one might think that he has forgotten why he is on the red carpet considering his loose demeanor; however Harrelson explains his nonchalant attitude as a premature surrender of defeat to the other men in his category (Geoffrey Rush, Mel Gibson, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes).

"Since I'm anticipating [on] losing, there's nothing to be nervous about," he says with a grin. "It'll be alright."

His premonition proved correct that year, as he wasn't given the opportunity to show off his hemp tux while making his acceptance speech at the podium.

VIDEO: Globes Flashback '96: Kidman's Career Changes

He was nominated over a decade later for another Golden Globe for The Messenger, but he didn't receive the award that year either. However, he did wear a hemp suit to the Oscars for his nomination for The Messenger.

Harrelson is nominated for another Golden Globe this year for the TV film Game Change. While it's unclear if he'll win the award, we're a little more certain as to what "fabric" his tux will be comprised of.

You could say we got wind of it.

Julianne Hough, Josh Duhamel Talk 'Safe Haven'

Julianne Hough pairs up with Josh Duhamel for the romantic thriller Safe Haven. While her co-star Cobie Smulders assessed the onscreen pair's chemistry as "fiery," ET wanted to know what her romance is like with her real-life boyfriend Ryan Seacrest. "Fiery" wasn't Hough's word of choice, but she did gush about her man.

"Ryan is the most romantic person I've ever met," she praised on the film's set in North Carolina. "[He's] very thoughtful and very generous...Things that you wouldn't think a guy would even pick up on he's already done five steps ago."

RELATED: Hough: I'm 20 Pounds Heavier Since Dating Seacrest

Hough went on to describe some of the thoughtful things that Seacrest does for her, including sending her mementos when the two are apart. The 24-year-old multitalented star also had high praises for her onscreen love interest.

"Josh is amazing to work with," Hough lauded of Duhamel. "He's definitely very focused when we're doing a scene, especially if it's something big...He's just a good guy and really fun."

Although the two are merely onscreen lovers, Duhamel, who is married to Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie, shares the same mindset of Hough's boyfriend about what keeps a relationship strong.

"I think the secret [to a lasting relationship] is just doing little things and just being thoughtful and just making sure they're being thought about," the Transformers actor said. "It's not so much about the big, grand gestures as it is about the little things."

Safe Haven
is yet another film adaptation of a novel by Nicholas Sparks, who also wrote A Walk to Remember, The Notebook, and Dear John, which were all made into films in addition to four more of his love-story books.

Although the theme of love is not lost in the upcoming film, there is an added element of suspense in this one, which Duhamel extracted as a key element as to why he joined the film.

VIDEO: Julianne Hough on Stripping For Tom Cruise

"I love the story...I've always wanted to do one of these movies. The Nicholas Sparks movies are something that I'm actually a big fan of," he said. "If I was going to do one and if I had an opportunity to do one, I wanted it to be a little bit different...and this is a movie that, I think, is going to surprise people in that it's...romantic but it's more of a thriller, suspenseful, a little bit scarier movie than the other ones."

Safe Haven
is in theaters February 14.

Rare Photo Of Teenage Princess Diana

A never-before-seen photograph featuring the late Princess Diana has been made public in the weeks before the rare pic is set to go up for auction.

The black-and-white snapshot displaying a "not to be published" marking shows a teenage Diana lounging next to an until-now mystery pal, reportedly dating back to 1981.

"The young man was Adam Russell, the great-grandson of former prime minister Stanley Baldwin," Andrew Morton, Diana's biographer, revealed to the U.K.'s Guardian. Through his investigation, the writer discovered the context of the photograph was not intimate, as it appears at first glance. Apparently the twosome had been injured while skiing and simply kept each other company for the afternoon.

Now that's not to say the young man didn't escape Diana's charms.

Golden Globes Flashback: Julianne Moore 1998

Nineteen ninety-seven was a year filled with many things for Julianne Moore to smile about. Her film Boogie Nights was praised by critics and resulted in her first Golden Globe nomination, and a month after receiving the nom, she had her first child. A month after that, she walked the Globes red carpet with a glistening smile.

While Moore is delighted to be at the 1998 Golden Globes, she reveals that this will be the longest period of time that she has been away from her six-week-old son, which she admits is tough given a mother's instincts.

Her nomination for Boogie Nights was her first ever Globes nomination but she had technically been a partial recipient of the Special Ensemble Award at the 1994 Golden Globes for Short Cuts. The then 37-year-old Moore says she never imagined Boogie Nights would earn her a nomination.

"I mean, I loved the script and I loved the part and I was so gratified to be able to do it, but I never thought it would be like this," she says to ET's former correspondent Jann Carl of the film's critical reception.

Moore didn't win her first individual Golden Globe that night, but one can imagine that a smile returned to her face upon returning home to her young child. If anything, it was fun for her to get dolled up and wear a gown for the first time since her high school prom.

She went on to be nominated for more Golden Globes for An Ideal Husband and The End of the Affair two years later but did not receive an award that time around either, which spawned a trend for her.

Golden Globes Flashback: Claire Danes 1995

Predominantly a film and stage actress, Claire Danes has been a regular on two television series: her current show Homeland and the show that bolstered her career, My So-Called Life. While the show only lasted one season, the then-15-year-old rising actress won her first Golden Globe for her performance on the teen drama.

My So-Called Life
has attracted a substantial cult following in the years since its original run was halted at one season, but the series about teen social issues wasn't much of a hit in the mid-nineties. Nevertheless, Danes shone bright as a promising young actress.

As she cradles her first Golden Globe Award in the pressroom, Danes emanates the poise of a woman ten years her elder and offers an intellectual view on why the show hasn't thrived on TV despite the critical acclaim.

PICS: Date Night: Claire Danes & A-List Couples at Past Emmys

"There's a lot of different reasons why it could not be doing so well," she begins. "First of all, I don't know about that Nielsen box system. Who knows what's up with that? I think it's on a weird timeslot and it's a really complicated show and it's very confusing to figure out how to market it. It's pretty fragile."

The show was indeed perceived as being an odd specimen to market, as its main audience of teenage girls was viewed as an obstacle; however the show's demographic dilemma proved to be only part of the reason why the show was abruptly canceled after its premiere season.

RELATED: Claire Danes 'Can't Imagine' Being Angelina or Jen

Unfortunately for the show, its teenage actors weren't simply living out their high school lives on TV and were burdened with their own sets of schoolwork, including Danes' paper on the Protestant Reformation, which led specifically Danes and her parents to become weary of a second season due to the time commitment.

While the exact reasoning behind My So-Called Life's cancellation remains a vague hodgepodge of factors, co-executive producer Marshall Herskovitz alleged that Danes and her parents expressed their disinterest in a second season, which Danes admitted to in an interview ten years later.

RELATED: Claire Danes Gives Birth

Regardless of the rationale behind the show's demise, it bolstered Danes' career and immediately landed her a trio of movie roles. Better yet, she found an in with TV critics, as she has received a Golden Globe for both projects she has taken on since My So-Called Life (Temple Grandin (TV film), Homeland).

After winning a Golden Globe for the first season of Homeland, the now-33-year-old actress is up for another award at this year's Globes, which gives her a shot at winning four consecutive Globes for her TV work.

Adam Lambert Criticizes Les Miserables Russell Crowe Responds

Adam Lambert was one of the Americans who forked over millions ($66 million, to be exact) to see Les Miserables over the Christmas holiday and his 9 Tweet review of the film garnered a lot of attention over the weekend.

RELATED - Kris Allen Injured In Car Accident

"Les Mis: Visually impressive w great Emotional performances. But the score suffered massively with great actors PRETENDING to be singers," Lambert wrote on December 30. "It's an opera. Hollywoods movie musicals treat the singing as the last priority. (Dreamgirls was good). Anne Hathaway as Fantine and Enjolras were the exceptions for me. Helena B Carter and Sasha B Cohen were great too. And I do think it was cool they were singing live- but with that cast, they should have studio recorded and sweetened the vocals. I felt like I should ignore the vocals and focus on the emotional subtext- but the singing was so distracting at times it pulled me out. The industry will say 'these actors were so brave to attempt singing this score live' but why not cast actors who could actually sound good? Sorry for being so harsh but it's so True!"

Now, an unexpected ally has taken Lambert's side in this debate: Les Miserables star Russell Crowe!

Last night, @BrunetteMom123 Tweeted at Crowe, "Not sure if you saw @adamlambert's comments about Les Miserables. He was pretty opinionated."

The Oscar-winner responded, "I don't disagree with Adam, sure it could have been sweetened, [Les Miserables director Tom] Hooper wanted it raw and real, that's how it is."

What do you think? Was Adam Lambert right, or was the live singing part of the film's charm? Weigh in below!

Kanye West Raps About Raising Child

Kanye West announced at his show on Sunday night that he and Kim Kardashian are expecting their first child, which brought back to memory the rapper's song where he reveals how he plans to raise his child.

On West and Jay-Z's New Day track, off their Watch the Throne album, the 35-year-old hip-hop artist raps:

And I'll never let my son have an ego

He'll be nice to everyone, wherever we go

I mean I might even make him be Republican

So everybody know he love white people

And I'll never let him leave his college girlfriend

And get caught up with the groupies in the whirlwind

And I'll never let him ever hit the telethon

I mean even if people dyin' and the world ends

See, I just want him to have an easy life

Not like Yeezy life, just want him to be someone people like

Don't want him to be hated all the time, judged

Don't be like your daddy that would never budge

And I'll never let him ever hit a strip club

I learned the hard way, that ain't the place to get love

And I'll never let his mom move to LA

Knowin' she couldn't take the pressure now we all pray

Though the lyrics are directed towards a son, they do offer insight into what sort of father West plans to be. Listen to the track, below:
